Distributing spheres, ellipsoids on a surface using Grasshopper

Hello,

I’m new to grasshopper, and I’m trying to populate random sized spheres, ellipsoids on to this surface to get this coral-bubbly like appearance onto my surface. Would it be okay if someone could pls help me do this - thank you!

SURFACE - MCNEEL FORUM.3dm (283.9 KB)

I tried this workflow here, but mines a little different with a 3D component.

Hi @nfsjfnswv546273, since you’re in the early stages playing with ‘populating’ objects, and since yours isn’t flat, then try the ‘populate geometry’ option in grasshopper so that points are scattered on the actual shape.

Yep thank you, i used populate geometry and it worked better, but is their a way to have like different sized spheres scattered on the actual shape?

Yes - you’re almost there, make the number of random values the same as the point count.

Thank you so much! it worked. Also is there any way to make an ellipsoid like-shape instead so it resembles the coral form like in that pic?

You can scale the spheres non uniformly around their centers
