Display Problem - curves in front of solids/surfaces

I still use this “secret” command every once in a while due to this line overlay problem. Not as much as in the past but occasionally. I run the latest Rhino 6 on Nvidia P2000 card, really good laptop. Bottom line, the issue still crops up. Thanks.

We have recently begun have a few users experiencing issues related to this, I believe. They are having issues selecting isocurves in the shaded viewports. These users are on Rhino 6 SR21, 28, and 29. Calling the TestZBiasFactor command corrects the issue for those users.

Not sure if this is something that needs to be revisited.

Hello, so I think im have the same issue, im mac using rhino v6 the “TestZBiasFactor” unfortunately doesn’t have any effect when i go less below “1” I basically don’t want to see the blue lines of the object below the surface is this possible to achieve?
any advice welcome i also tried the clear draw order to no avail.

Hello - it should be possible - can you post a small example, or send to tech@mcneel.com, with a link back to this topic?

Hi Pascal

Ive posted a screen shot here the blue objects are behind the grey objects and i can see the edges especially as i zoom away form the object is this the correct thread ?

Hello - I see the screen shot; I need a Rhino file…

thanks,

-Pascal

Ok no problem ill sent it over thanks for the prompt response

Also it the same in the wip but i don’t have the problem in rendered mode on the wip so that as useful.

Hi,

I am getting this issue in Rhino 7 with curves within blocks. Running ClearDrawOrder inside the block solved the issue.

I didn’t ask the question, but I got the answer. Thank you so much Pascal!

This solved my issue in Rhino 8 (with Metal support) for Mac, thanks!

Hi there,

I’m having a similar issue, regarding edges showing through solids/surfaces (see screencapture and system info below). The issue seems to depend on the distance the edges are behind the seen surface, the angle the camera/view is to the surface and the distance of the object is away from the camera/view. In my model shown in the screencapture, the curved skin is 4mm thick and shows edges through it and the flat seat is 12mm thick and doesnt show edges through it. When zoomed in, the edges almost completely disappear which is great, but edges show when zooming out for larger objects. Watch the video to see how the testzbiasfactor command affects the situation.

NOTE: I am creating shop drawings and it’s been confusing people when they see lines there where there shouldn’t be. Edges show in both printing and PDFs (rhino pdf, windows print to pdf and direct printing to printer). The visible edges change in the print preview window too, depending on how maximised the print preview window is, same as the viewport in the video below.

I have tried:

  • Adjusting zoom length (More parallel = more lines show through)
  • The “testzbiasfactor” command helps alot but doesnt remove all, especially from a distance, the edges show again.
  • The “cleardraworder” command seems to have no affect.
  • changing Antialiasing has no affect on this issue
  • Switching display modes

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

See screencapture below - I have a Custom Monochrome display mode, but it happens the same on standard default Shaded mode.

SYSTEM INFO

hi @Alexander_Raff there is no solution for that issue, other than increasing the thickness of your panels

that helped me just now as well. THANKS

Same issue, same solution, it worked.
