Dimensions / text oddities

This is on 8.20.25133.14001, 2025-05-13 I’m seeing dimensions, leaders, and text behaving oddly after double clicking into and out of a detail.

In a new file, create some geometry in model space, switch to layout, create a detail, double click into the detail, then double click back out. Over here, I now cannot place text or a leader (it will let me start, but when I hit Enter, the leader / text disappears). I can also no longer double click to edit dimensions (double clicking text to edit seems to work however).

Thanks,
Sam

hi @SamPage I could not reproduce with the instructions given.
pls run _SystemInfo and post back the results

Hi @Gijs OK, that was a terrible report on my part (end of day, and I thought I had the trigger, but wasn’t even close). Doesn’t matter what space, model or layout, details don’t have anything to do with it, just try placing more than 16 leaders. Over here it will fail on attempt 17. Systeminfo below.

Thanks,
Sam

In the meantime, is there a way to roll back to 8.19? When I download it, the installer says I already have a newer version installed.

Thanks,
Sam

I am having a similar problem where additional leaders aren’t able to be created.

As the file I’m working on is proprietary, I’ll send it to tech@mcneel.com and link to this thread.

Hi Sam,

We can duplicate the issue and will get it logged.

@ssommerv Thanks for emailing the file to support.
We will look at it soon.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier

Hi,
While we’re figuring this out, a workaround is to run the -Leader command instead of Leader.

Hi Sam -

You’d need to uninstall 8,20 and then install 8.19.
But, perhaps with the -Leader work-around you can stay on 8.20…

There is something seriously wrong, in one file, I could still create leaders because there were less than 16 of them, but I couldn’t change the arrow type of leaders nor dimensions. I then tried to copy all dims and leaders from that file into a new file and when I tried to change arrow of a leader to a user defined block, Rhino straight up crashed. I can’t replicate it now because the conditions for that seem to be very particular but I sent a crash report when it happened with the file attached.

Hi Simon -

Yes.
This issue was put on the list as RH-87550 [Crash creating 17th leader] (not sure why it was not set to be visible to the public).
This has since been fixed and the next 8.20 candidate will contain that fix. For now, you should probably revert to 8.19.

RH-87550 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 20
