Deformed cage applying to object, possible?

Hello, I have a bunch of objects that I want to deform all together with cage edit. All objects together are to slow to calculate, therefor I would love to only apply the cage to a curve that mimics the overall shape and when happy with tweaking the cage points only then add the actual objects to the deformed cage. Is that possible?

I was thinking maybe using blocks, but I don’t think a block can be cage edited right?

Yes, you can do that. It will work best if the bounding box of your curves is the same as the bounding box for your group of objects. Here is how to do it:

Create a cage for your curves & edit cage however you want to.
Select your group of objects and run CageEdit.
When asked to select control object, select the cage control.
Hit enter for global.
Next step is the key: move any cage control point some distance, then move it back the same distance. The cage should now affect your group of objects.
