example of how mullions are centered and there is no way to re align them, I know we can align the entire curtain wall on interior, center and exterior. I’m specifically mentioning it for the different facade elements.
When using the “Curtain Wall from Surface” tool, there doesn’t appear to be an option to specify which side is interior or exterior. Even if I manually flip the surface direction, the curtain wall direction remains unchanged.
For example, I’m using the base template for a structural curtain wall, but there’s no visible mechanism to adjust the curtain wall’s orientation.
Sorry for the never ending dump.. and bug report raid, but I assume its best to report it then ignore it..
@fsalla it seems your revolving door interior frame is not being imported properly I have tried a couple a times with the same issue, unsure if it’s the style coming from Food for Rhino or my machine?
Also why not integrate all the awesome VA styles you have created into the official install?
Was also wondering why is it that when a file i created without the VA template all the VA library of styles is gone, it seems it should remain to avoid confusion no?
Hi @lourencovp thanks for reporting these issues with the curtain wall object.
There is no option right now to change the alignment of the glass in relation to the mullion. Also it is not possible to create the glass panel covering the Frame like in your screenshot. We may add these features in future versions (or you can create a curtain wall with these features from a Grasshopper Style right now).
You are right, we will revise this issue and fix it.
We will revise this particular case as well.
There is an error in the original Grasshopper file. I’ll fix it and upload the style again on food4Rhino.
Good question. As @ng5_Alex well says, adding a new style requires some additional work for the developers, the translators…But we may add them in future versions. Which other ones would you include?
Feel free to request for some other styles you wish to find in VisualARQ templates by default (even if they are not on food4Rhino).
Remember that VisualARQ templates come with the library of object sytles, and Rhino templates don’t.
The new styles you create are saved in your current document, not in Rhino. That’s why when you open a new file, you just find the existing styles in that file (either if it is a Rhino template or a VisualARQ template.). What you could do is to export your new sytles to a .val, import it in custom template, and save it after, so when you start a new document from that template all the new and custom styles will be available for you.
Hi @fsalla, as always, thank you for your efforts.
Hopefully a more in-depth curtain wall tool will slowly grow and be developed, as fine control over alignments and elements would simplify the complex and tedious process of facades in rhino and allow for non grasshopper people to be part of the process and make VA an even better alternative. Will report back if I see any other issues with the curtain wall elements.
Hi @lourencovp you are right. The curtain wall from surface doesn’t seem to be sensitive to the direction of the surface, and the alignment of cells also change depending on if it’s a planar surface or a curved one. We will investigate these issues and try to find a solution.
Also another thing I have noticed, if a curtain wall is added into a block, it loses all VA attributes?
Is this normal behavior?
Wondering how to do design options in a way where VA objects retain their properties but don’t intersect, which mean you can have facade 1 2 and 3 and all of them in the same position in 3D in either different layers or blocks to toggle on and off?
Hi @lourencovp,
A VisualARQ object doesn’t lose its attributes or parametric features when it is added to a block. Neither Curtain walls. Do you have an example where this happens?
We have plans to add “intersection groups” in future VisualARQ versions. This will provide some control about which objects intersect with which. Managing these objects by layers and intersection groups will let you play with project design variations in the same place.
@fsalla just found another instance where the reported loss of VA attributes when made into a block happens, file attached.
Just select the 5 objects in the file, make a block, double click the block, you will see the curtain wall has lost its VA properties. Furthermore, if you ctrl Z or explode the problem remains and some bugs happen when you ctrl Z, such as Curtain wall becomes unresponsive.
That’s odd, I’m doing exactly the same thing you showed on the video. yet when I click on the curtain wall inside the new block created, it just shows me a block…
And it just happened to me again on a different file!
I’m thinking, the only thing different is that I have “BlockEditNew” plug in installed from the package manager of Rhino, the plug in helps with dealing with blocks and groups in a much more efficient way.
I wonder if this could this be the source of the issue?
Hi @lourencovp I don’t know. We already started some conversations with the BlockEdit developer, in order to find a solution to make both tools compatible. I’ll keep you posted with any news.
