I am running Rhino 8 with Cross Gems. Every time there is an update it reverts back and I loose all my settings and have to try and get them back.
Last up date I can no longer install my added tool bar, the view ports pop up in different places and all round it’s next to impossible to use anymore.
My software agent who sells the program has tried numerous times to rectify things and still no joy.
So basically last month I lost nearly 10k worth of work and now have to outsource all my cad work. Is there anyone that works for McNeel that can log in and fix this urgently.
I don’t profess to be tech savvy or a great cad designer but I am at my whits end and don’t seem to be able to any support
Hi Clayton,
Are you creating a custom layout in just such a case?
You can use OptionsExport and OptionsImport to migrate/backup settings.
Hi Japhy,
Thank you I will look at this, however I am not very good with programs and settings. The added toolbar I no longer have and am not able to retrieve it to copy. I shall try again but really need someone who has the knowledge to do it for me, all I want is it set the way I am use to using. I did have a file from Rik, jewelry cad school, that has the tool bar and settings that I want but that no longer works in rhino 8 for some reason.
Hi Clayton,
We can help but will need a clear understanding what is happening, the steps you’ve taken and a way to reproduce the issue.
What is the specific plugin version you are working with?
Hi Japhy,
The installed version is 8 SR10(8.10.24228.13001,2024-08-15
So far I have restore the settings and also reinstalled the program completely a couple of times, this has had little effect. I have managed to keep my grid settings as a saved template but am still having no luck with the command, go to centre. this command no longer is even searchable.
I use to have an added tool bar with go to centre, hid and show. These i use very often but the go to centre missing has caused a lot of issues.
The view ports periodically have been one port, then when selecting another you get a small pop up view that disappears when clicked elsewhere on the screen.
The render is also not working, the gold render is a dull matt colour. Also when ever I am designing a new piece the default material is always plastic, I am not able to set it to the gold default material in my template. When selecting materials to rendering I have to click on a different material first then back to the one that’s needed to get it to work.
As stated before I am a self taught person and do need help to sort the template out and how to prevent these updates causing all the issues in the future as I have had to turn down thousands of dollars in work this week alone and the rest I have had to contract out which is not sustainable for the business.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi Japhy,
Where do I find the version of cross gems I’m using. I have the most up to date update.
I have fixed a few things lately and got most of the program running but get an error every time it loads saying there are missing rendering files which would explain why it will not render properly. Also every time I draw something the default material is always plastic which is frustrating, I would assume there must be somewhere to set the default material to gold?. I will copy the error message for you to see as it makes little sense to me.
I’m not familiar with Cross Gems in particular but version information for plugins can be found in File>Properties>Plugins
Thank you, I will have a look tomorrow
