Control points appear different than set in properties

I am using Rhino 6 for windows on a MAC computer which has windows 10 installed via bootleg. I am trying to set the control points to show up white and turn yellow when selected. However, even though I have set the properties to show like this, the control points still appear as grey boxes and when they are selected they simply show a tiny red line next to them rather than turning yellow. This makes them really hard to see.
