Did anything change in the way Rhino handles licenses of different versions?
Since I registered my version 8 license I get the following message when trying to run Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 concurrently:
(The first sentence translated to English: Your license is in use on -name of computer-)
Seems like I cannot use Rhino 8 while using Rhino 7.
And, I just checked, rhino 6 has now the same problem: Any combination of 2 of the 3 versions (6,7 and 8) leads to a conflict.
So upgrading to version 8 made me loose concurrent use of version 6 and 7?
Something is seriously f-ed up here.
These are my licenses as of my Rhino account website:
Again, before acquiring and adding my Rhino8 license, version 6 and 7 (and the 8WIP/trial) lived perfectly happy side by side.
Is this some bug or did McNeels policy change?
If the latter, then I am not amused.
Bug,
we are working on it as we speak- try removing your v6 license from your cloud zoo as a test. Does it allow the v7 and v8 to run? If so please let us know.
We are working hard to get this fixed so that all licenses run as expected in any combination.
edit, this may remove your v7 and v8 keys as well… if so, please re-enter your v8, then your v7 as proof of upgrade. do NOT add your v6 back at this time for this test.
I’m just suggesting this as a temporary test… if it works let us know, as it confirms one part of our concept for fixing this. We will get a fix out asap once we get the problem nailed down.
to answer your question, v6 will likely want to be in the cloud zoo as all upgrade linked keys need to be licensed the same way.
Okay, I did some testing:
Removing version 6 license (which removes v7 and v8 too) and then adding v7 and v8 doesn’t work.
I then removed all licenses again and added v6 and v7 license and after some initial hickup v6 and v7 can run concurrently again (verrsion 8 obviously not without license)
I just added my Version 8 license again, and (apart from one initial popup message in Rhino 6) now everything seems to work fine.
Thank you for your efforts.
I’m having a similar issue with my Licences. I just bought a new Rhino 8 licence in addition to an old upgraded Rhino 7 licence but I want to run two versions of 7 while I complete a project. I’m getting the same conflict pop up from the licence server saying the Rhino 7 licence is already in use. I’m assuming it’s possible to use a Rhino 8 licence for Rhino 7. Is this true?
Thanks for the clarification and the link. I had assumed the licence was backwards compatible but that link to add a legacy licence has done exactly what I needed. Thanks again
