Complete newb question - how to deboss a logo or line art on a surface

Hi there:
I’m a beginner and I’m trying to deboss a logo on to a flat surface.

I’m pretty sure it’s incredibly simple - but I can’t figure it out. any ideas?

I have an imported file from illustrator that I want to deboss 1/2 way through a flat surface.
(surface is 1mm deep and I’d like to deboss it .5mm deep)

Thanks in advance

Matt

Well, since no file is attached, I can just give you a general procedure. If your base surface is a solid 1mm thick, and your logo is a set of closed, non-overlapping curves, you can use Extrude from the Solid menu and extrude your logo curves into your base object 0.5mm. Then use BooleanDifference (also Solid menu) to subtract your solid logo from the base surface.

Mitch - thanks so much. If I run into issues, I’ll post a file a bit later.

Thank you so much for your help.

I’ll report back on how it went.

Here’s a sample file that shows one approach…
Deboss_Emboss.3dm (1.2 MB)

success.
