back in 2015 I had need to hollow out a model for 3D print and some methods failed to work. There is also the need if resin printing for a drain hole.
I am about to enquire for quotes on some complex shapes, most likely fdm method.
Firstly I need to easily hollow them out, entering a wall thickness the company give me, and different companies might have different requirements on thickness.
No doubt things have improved since 2015, so what command or plug in is there and what version of Rhino has the best command now ?
I dont want to be trimming and joining and fiddling around as such, but have a simple click and done command.
Also for items that need to fit within others, e.g. slide against a steel wall or glue fit between a steel item, given the tolerances of 3D printing, the surfaces in question being currently drawn as abutting might need moving out a tad, is there a command that deals with abutting surfaces only and offsets such, moving other designed parts by that amount at same time ? Else I foresee explode, then move then redesign the surfaces that join and now dont, ditto other features, and alter chamfers and a can of worms developing.
I have drawn the item as it exists already, to 0.001 inch and thats been a nightmare, so if anyone suggests I should have designed it to suit 3D thats not possible during the initial build, like playing football(soccer) and the goal post moving back and forth ,…a build which was 10 weeks and should have been 1. thanks to screw threads and complex surfaces fillets (Jim saved the day on fillets there).
