Class ring and network crvs

Could use some help. I need to make this ring from the line drawing. I laid out my crvs and got the basic shape using crv network. when I extrude the finger sz crv and booleon dif. the sides of the ring change as shown… I need it not to do that. .I’d like to make the ring by building surfaces but I think I need a few more crvs? any help is highly appreciated. I know I can turn on the srf. points and edit them over to the original crvs as seen in the ghosted view but it’s not easy nor does the edge look smooth gets wavy do to lack of control of the points (that’s how I made the ring but not good enough for my needs) this one is driving me bonkers! thanks… also a video (the first one) on the one I made in rhino and the printed one …looks good but the edges are too wavy! second video shows the issue!

Included is the line drawing in dxf and lines

Hello,

I gave a try to this signet ring.
Since you want to control the side shape of the ring, it means you have to build the interior curve of the hole. This is the intersection between a cylinder and an extrusion of the side curve.

From there I used Patch command with 0.1 as stiffness.

I’m sure there a better solution but I can’t find it

Sorry I use r6 don’t have r7 so I cant open your file. Did the side view change?

Saved in R6.
The side view respects your dxf file.

That looks great!..I’m a little or more than a little confused, It looks like the ring is made up of four srfs when I exploded it …did you use network to make the srv and mirror it around…when I do that I get a sharp edge not rounded where the srvs meet doesn’t look the same as yours. Could you please run through how you made the ring base before the trimming out part sorry!

It’s a Patch, not a NetworkSrf.

It worked when I tried it on the file I posted!. .however I tried another file same ring different sz and I’m getting a shoulder bump I used the same patch settings something must be wrong, on my end of course! if you could help me one more time I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much

I don’t have R7…

Here are two versions of it. You can open them in V6 but there aren’t many tools in V6 to change them

You could try to adjust the stiffness value. If you increase it, you will reduce that bump in the surface, but it won’t fit the border curves as well. It’s a balance to find. Could you upload your second file ?

The SubD solution is really great, I have no idea where to start modeling this…

I tried another approach building loft sections in Grasshopper, and then cutting by the cylinder.

I’m starting over with the file that didn’t work will know soon …could be one of my crvs…R6 no sub ‘D’
I seen this on youtube and tried it I can’t get a smooth crv to my edge he’s going in with it I need to go out with it but I like your way better so far…I won’t give up yet!
check this out maybe give it a try https://youtu.be/yb4gxzYR9D0

This is another approach from a loose loft:

Try with QuadRemesh on your nurbs model…

Same thing no luck back to it!

No R7

Those are really nice!..if I get more jobs I might have to invest in R7 …
