Can't sub select mesh edge in Wireframe mode in Rhino 9 WIP

Using ctrl+shift+LMB to select a mesh edge in Rhino 8 looks like this:

I get to choose from three options.

In Rhino 9 WIP I cannot select the edge and the face is selected and highlighted.

Is there a setting which keeps me from selecting the edge?

hi @martinsiegrist I cannot seem to reproduce that. In fact, in wireframe mode, I cannot select a mesh face with subobject selection (ctrl+shift) in either Rhino 8 or Wip.
Can you share that file or another that shows this behavior?

Ok, it might have to do with ngons…

The mesh on the left has no ngons and I can select in a normal way. On the right it does not work as expected.

Rhino 9 file:

mesh_ngon_subselect_problem.3dm (70.6 KB)

I copy pasted the content into Rhino 8.

@martinsiegrist what is the _SystemInfo of your Rhino 8 installation?

Hmm, interesting… I need to dig more. I see the buggy behavior in both Rhino 8.20 and latest WIP

I don’t need Rhino 8. All my work is in Rhino 9.

I’ll log it in a bit, for me it is important right now to find the source of this bug.

Sure thing! Thanks!!!

I’m really curious what you are doing differently. Here both 8.19-8.21 / WIP behave the same. Selecting on the Ngon mesh the first selection is always a face, only after that I get the selection menu like you are showing.
On the no N-gon mesh, the first selection is always an edge…

Are you in Wireframe mode?

I was concerned it would be my mesh but just came to the conclusion it has to be something else.

This new example I added a mesh box with 2 x 2 x 2 faces and ngons. Selection in wireframe mode is exactly the same. I can-t select edges.

mesh_ngon_subselect_problem.3dm (89.2 KB)

I am, yes. Default factory wireframe

I just want to get one thing clear as well: So when you select your first edge in Rhino 8, you get the selection menu right away?

Yes, one click in Rhino 8 and I see this:

I’m so confused. I cannot get that, tried on 3 different computers.

In Rhino 9 if I switch off Object snap highlight I see no change. I still get the highlight.

I can snap to vertices but not edges.

You have Rhino.Options.General.MouseOverHighlightSubObjects off?

with that off, I get the menu right away, and I don’t see the issue

Don’t ask me why this was set to True?

I think you found the issue. Thanks so much!

I’ll have to give this another look tomorrow. On Mac it behaves differently in any case.
