Can't select viewport for detailscale function?

For some reason I can’t select the viewports to use the “detailscale” function? I have this working in other drawings and solved this before, but I can’t remember how. Thoughts?

I just installed 8.16. It solved my custom icon display problem, but this one still persists.

You need to pick on the edge of the detail, and then edit the Detail properties page.

If PrintPreview is on, and the Edge of detail is not showing, then you will not be able to select the detail. This is controlled by the PrintDisplay command.

Command: _PrintDisplay
Print Display (Layout Viewports) ( State=Off Color=Print Viewport=Layout Scope=Document DetailBorder=AlwaysVisible ):

Mary Ann, thanks for the response. It is just weird. I just don’t understand what has happened. I’ve been using the scaledetail function since it became available. I just don’t understand if I have switched something off. (discovered the print display thing a while back)

My viewport outline is selectable until I try to select it to use detailscale. Assuming it’s something wrong in my template, I tried starting fresh. I made a new file using the Rhino included “Small feet template”. I created a new layout, then a detail viewport. I opened the Text dialogue, chose the Text fields function which brought up the text field options and “select object” dialogue. I click the “select object”, get the select cursor, but it will not select the viewport.

Hi Nicholas -

That would be the expected behavior if the detail has a non-parallel viewport.
If that’s not it, could you post a screenshot of the “Text Field” dialog box with the text field selected?

I apologize for all this consternation. Apparently I need to select the “detailscale” option first. When I do that it works. I was trying to select the viewport first. Duh. Amazing how quickly one looses skills when away from the work for a long time. Thanks to you both.
