Can't select sub-objects in groups in rhino 8

I noticed in rhino8 I can’t select second level sub-objects in groups (for instance I can select a surface sometimes but not one of it’s edges)
Is there any way/setting to allow me to select any sub-object without breaking the group?

and while I am at it, what’s up with the zoom scrolling? It goes non local fast and often and need to ZS all the time. Don’ remember these issues plaguing previous versions…
