"Can't open that file"

Hello All,

OK, I’ve been importing SolidWorks files for some time now, but lately (since installing SW2024?) i keep getting the very informative message that Rhino “Can’t open that file”!
Any thoughts?
OK, I just tried a single part file, see attached with this message:
Can’t open that file
Error importing file “A:\JF Design…\PBS-2212-CROSS-RAIL.SLDPRT”.

PBS-2212-CROSS-RAIL.SLDPRT (8.8 MB)
TIA,
Muggs

Rhino 8 opened this fine-

saved here as a rhino 3dm (v7)

PBS-2212-CROSS-RAIL.3dm (1002.2 KB)

Kyle,

OK, thanks. V7 gives me the error and my V8 eval has expired, so…
I guess I’ll have to export as STEP.

Thanks again,
Muggs

solidworks keeps working with us, then not working with us on and off depending on the year and how insecure they are feeling about their stock price after the most recent tech conference. some versions of solidworks work and others don’t. We can’t keep track anymore.

step is the reliable format. use ap 214 cc2 if it an available option.

Kyle, Thank you!

LOL! You would be shocked at how much I know about what you’re talking about.

SolidWorks 2024 can back save to SolidWorks versions 2023 and 2022.
That’s a first!

Since this year, SolidWorks 2024 is able to write to version 2023 and 2022.
It works well in the meantime Rhino gets the new library.

Yes, I’m aware, and that works well, except fore one thing on one part in the assembly fails. Export to STEP works fine for right now.

Thank you,
Muggs
