Can't Change Object Display Colors

I’m running into an odd problem. Maybe, it some change in Rhino 8 that I’m not familiar with.

When, I’m in, say, shaded or ghosted mode, object’s display colors show correctly by layer, but when I select an object, and try and change its display color manually in properties, I get 4 options:

By Layer

By Parent

By Material

Custom

When I select Custom, no color-selection dialog appears and the color just changes to white or something similar. (I can’t tell which color because there’s no dialog.)

Accordingly, I can’t individually change an object’s display color as I like.

It used to be that, in properties display color, I could get a dialog with the standard display color options and I could select any color I wanted manually for any selected object’s display color.

Please help!

When you click on the dropdown, you get the 4 options that you mentioned. When you set this to Custom, the button to the left of that dropdown changes to a white color swatch

To change this color, click the swatch to get the color selection dialog.

The faster way is to click on the layer icon in that button when the dropdown is still set to By Layer.
