Can I tag 2D drawing objeect in VisualARQ?

I’m evaluating ViusalARQ and noticed that instead of created a 2D views from a live 3D objects, it used the Make2D command from Rhino to convert 3D drawings to 2D linework.

How can I tag object in elevation or section and read the parameters of that object?

Am I missing something? This is one of the core features of BIM is to be able to tag objects in plan, elevation, section etc.

I’ve only used Visual ARQ 2 so things may have changed. They have vaPlanView, vaSectionView, etc… and they are VA’s own version of “Make2D”. For what I was doing at the time they worked pretty good. But I had to pick and choose which features to include/exclude.

In this video they are applying the tag to the 3D object (in the actual model) and on a 2D element from the make 2D:

This is again from VA2.

I guess the hard part is that you’re jumping back and forth between the 2D linework and 3D model. You can’t just use one or the other. And would the tag be able to be placed in layout space? All of that is possible programmatically (tagging the 2D representation of the model would be iffy though). Updating the vaPlanView/SectionView would make the tag appear with the 2D stuff… if I remember correctly. It’s been a while. They might be moving away from this workflow I’m not sure?

Hi Benjamin, as @keithscadservices has pointed out, the vaTag command is used for that. However, it only works on plan views. We have plans to show them in elevation /section views in future versions. And why not, also in page layouts.

In VisualARQ 3 there are some improvements, such as defining the properties to display in the tag label by tag style.

Thanks for the reply. I would say that is a major impediment to switching from Revit and using this software, even for small projects. If I can’t tag elevations from the BIM model, then essentially I’m doing everything by hand. This would be a more traditional workflow where you Make2D and then manually tag each object. Extremely error-prone and time-consuming.

Thanks Benjamin for your valuable feedback. I hope we can work on this feature soon. I’ll keep you posted.

+1 for vaTag-s in Elevations, Sections and in Layouts. That would be a life saver…
