Bug: Switching from floating viewport to layout registers as double-click

Hi, this is just a little bug but I’m starting to be annoyed by it. It also probably has been in Rhino forever since I can reproduce it in both R6 and latest R8.

When I need to see a layout and a standard viewport (eg. perspective view) at the same time, I create a floating viewport which I move to my second monitor and work in the desired layout in my main Rhino window on my primary monitor. (I wish Rhino was more flexible in this respect by the way, eg. allowing to show layout (or multiple layouts) in any of the viewports (floating or one of the 4 viewports etc.), but that’s for another topic).

Now, I can see at least two bugs associated with this setup:

  1. When I do something in the floating viewport, eg. pan the view, and then directly left-click into the layout, the first click always registers as double-click. Meaning when I click on a text/dimension, the pop-up window opens, when I click inside a detail, I enter that detail etc.

  2. When I close the floating viewport while having layout open in the main window, the viewport gets all bugged - the rightmost of the 4 viewports appears above the layout:

Clicking anywhere in the layout area makes the perspective view disappear but that click again registers as a double-click.

Yes, I see that. Perhaps we need a way of overriding this behavior.

If you are using the Rhino 8 SR13 Release Candidate, try turning off this property:

Yeah that’s annoying - thanks for reporting.

Thanks for registering this bug!

Just a little misunderstanding perhaps:

That sentence was just describing how the bugged viewport gets resolved - by clicking into the area with the layout view, the perspective view in the top right (that shouldn’t be there in the first place) disappears.
Changing that property doesn’t affect any of the behavior described above.

But thanks for pointing at it anyways, I’ll probably leave it on because the floating viewport disappearing when Rhino wasn’t active never made sense to me; had no idea this was an option.

If you run more than one copy of Rhino at a time, it will.

RH-84418 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 14

Yep, just tested it, double click isn’t happening anymore. Thanks.

Now only the second bug persists but at least that one’s much less annoying and I run into it much less frequently as it only happens on closing the viewport.
