BUG: Font changes when selecting text

Hopefully it’s clear from the screenshot. The font randomly changes when selecting the text within the text editor, this is a bit of a headache. I’m not entirely sure if the issue is with this particular font or with Rhino, but I haven’t seen a problem like this within any of the other software packages(Mostly illustrator, Photoshop and so on).

I’m running Version 6 SR13(6.13.19031.5531, 31-01-2019)

Hello - I’m checking on this, thanks - can you post or send me that DIN font?

@rheinason - thanks for the fonts - so far I do not see a problem here. Can you please make a file with text - ensure that it behaves badly and then send me that? Thanks,

-Pascal

Sure thing,

I recreated the bug on the home machine right away.

Ah, this looks like maybe the V6 “font family” bug. There are a couple of open items in the bugtracker on this which might apply:

Hello - can you please try, as a test, disabling VisualArq & Tibidabo & Enscape in Options > Plug-ins and then restart Rhino - same thing?

-Pascal

Yeah, I think you are right but it ain’t happening here in any recent build (12,13,14)

-Pascal

Disabling the plugins made no difference. I’ll have to check if I added OTF or TTF font format. Could that be a culprit?

CHECKED: It’s the OTF ones that are installed.

Possibly- I installed ttf here - if that is not what you have, please shout.

-Pascal

Hm - so far my Rhino does not like the OTF ones at all…Nope, it does not display in the viewport. I guess the next test would be to swap yours out for the TTF ones…
@Alain - if you have any ideas… I’m spinning my wheels a bit here. Should Rhino be OK with OTF fonts?

-Pascal

Huh… They(the OTF ones) display and print fine here, it’s just this font switcheroo business that’s a bother. I’d much rather have the OTF ones installed, they have a fair few nice features when using them within Illustrator and the likes. Give me a few minutes and I’ll test with the TTF ones.

UPDATE: Changing to TTF made no discernible difference here, the switching is still present.

OK, thanks for testing. I’ve been switching builds like a mad man today, I’ll go back to the one you have.

-Pascal

Just tested with Gill Sans and I was able to recreate the error:

Attached: Text Changing Randomly issue_Gill Sans.3dm (69.2 KB)

Font family… Gill Sans MT and MT Condensed…

Hey Mitch - I assume you had a try…? do you see this problem at all?

thanks,

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I see that here on an SR14 daily [both with and without load-protecting Tibidabo and VisualARQ]

I’ll make a new YT…

Thanks for confirming.

Funny how your example defaults to Arial, while mine to Gill Sans MT.

Well - it changes to Arial when I highlight the text in the edit box but when I deselect the text in the viewport and then select it once again, it shows Gill Sans MT.
