Bug: Changing Material for Ground Plane

1a
when i select a new material for the ground plane in the render settings i have to click into materials once more to assign the newly created material. seems pretty redundant.

1b
then (also very bothersome) i have to click on the pencil to change it, i think when you want to create the new material then you would want to change it immediately, so this 2nd extra step is not necessary, even more redundant.

too many unwanted steps for one single job.

i understand if you just assign a previous created material then all that is probably not relevant, but if you want to create a new material then you have to jump through all these hoops which is really incredibly tedious.

2
the actual bug is that the render settings stay dominantly on top of the material panel blocking the view to the materials. so i have to move the render settings aside to be able to edit the material.

I understand 1b, but 1a and 2 needs more information.

In 2. Do you click the pencil icon and the material edit dialog is shown under Rhino? Could you take a screenshot to clarify?

is simply that i have to click on the pencil additionally. to be sure we are on the same page, i am here in the file settings

under ground plane i click on use a material, then i want to modify it which is not possible i have to create a new material for it by clicking into it and click plus then i select a material type for instance physically based and the menu closes again which is already strange enough, then i have to click into this pull down menu once more to look for this newly created material to select it, if i find it (in a bigger scene with many materials that always gets extremely difficult).

now all that nuisance is not enough but i have to click into the pencil finally to edit it. all these steps just to change the material for the grounplane is just crazy and does not seem right.

2
clicking on the pencil to change the material properties once created is actually the bug because when i do that the material panel hides behind the file settings having the file settings sticky on top blocking the view to the materials as you can see below. the materials pop up behind and clicking on it does not work the file settings stay infront, so i have to move the file settings aside to get to the material properties in the back.

Created two new bugs and one enhancement for these.

I already (locally on my machine) fixed the problem that the edit window is not the topmost window.
