Bug: Can't Change Layer

In the attached file (V8) I have a closed curve. Rhino will not allow me to change its layer on the properties panel. The Layer dropdown becomes unresponsive when I select this object.

It appears I can change the layer IFF the object properties panel is docked. If it is floating I cannot change it.

I have had (and reported) the same problem periodically. Still not clear what triggers it, nor what clears it, for me.

Hi @miano,

Thus far, I am unable to repeat what’s being reported. I’m using the current Rhino 8.5 service release candidate.

I’ve opened your file and undocked the Properties windows so it is floating.

If there are additional instructions I need to repeat, please let me know.

Thanks,

– Dale

OK, I have another Mac that I can repeat this on (sheesh). I’ll log a bug report.

Hi Miano,
I can repeat this issue in Sr4.
I cannot repeat this issue in Sr5 rc.

But it appears to be fixed in S5 Release Candidate.
Can you try the Sr5 and let us know if it fixes this issue for you too?

Go to Rhino 8 menu → Settings. Pick General, Release Candidate and Check Now.

Let us know if it works for you.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier

Before I get to the original problem, I installed that new version and opened the file I got this:

When I saved this file to report the bug, I had a Properties panel displayed. Now I have no Properties panels but I have TWO layers panels. The floating Properties panel has become a floating layers panel.

But yes, if I get rid of the second layers panel and open a floating properties I appear to be able to change the layer.

Thanks, Miano for the details.

Can you try reloading the default: Window Layout: window menu → Windows Layouts → Default Windows layout. You probably don’t need to save your current Window layout.

Let us know if it works.
Thanks,
Mary Fugier
