Bug: Bend angle limited to previously specified angle

Updated with new info:

Running Rhino 8.28.26021.13002, 2026-01-21

I can’t bend an object beyond the angle specified for a previous bend when not specifying an angle. After that threshold, the bend rapidly turns into a straight line.

I can reproduce this with something as trivial as a straight line. e.g.:

  1. Draw a horizontal line, 100mm long (black). Bend it to an angle of 80° using the angle parameter.
  2. Draw another horizontal line, 100mm long (black)
  3. Try to bend it to follow a 180° arc with a radius of 40mm (green) by clicking on the top of the arc as a through point (without specifying an angle).

Result in pink, with curvature graph turned on. Bend follows arc till about 80 degrees, then deviates and quickly becomes a straight line, as if I’d again specified a bend angle of 80°, even though I did not specify a bend angle at all. I reproduced this same issue in the Windows version as well.

Expected result: Bend should follow green curve all the way.

While I’m at it:

a) The preview bend shown before accepting does not match the final, accepted, bend. This is true in both the Mac and Windows versions. It would be great if the preview were, in fact, an accurate representation of the final bend. (Bug?)

b) I would really like to see an option to specify the bend radius, not just by angle, so I don’t have to draw a guide curve. (Feature request.)

Why are you trying to make an arc by bending a line? Don’t do that just draw proper curves.

I think you’ll find it is just an example…
