Blocks in Rhino 6

Hello there,

I was wondering if blocks are getting an update in Rhino 6. I’d like to organize and categorize blocks and insert them by just dragging them in

thanks,
stefan

dynamic blocks would be awesome as well, any information on that?

I also would like to have some updates regarding Rhino 6 mac and this topic (blocks, dynamic blocks).

Blocks in Rhino for Mac v6 will be pretty much the same as in the Windows version.

Thanks for your response

could you explain what you can do with blocks in the windows version?

thanks,
Stefan

It will be a lot more productive if you try the Rhino 6 WIP and tell us what is missing.
Also, don’t expect us to know what feature ‘xyz’ in package ‘æøå’ does. Describe the functionality that you are missing in Rhino.

Hi wim,

in the “Blocks” panel the “Insert” button is not working to me (latest RhinoWIP).

To echo what Stefan wished, it would be nice to have a drag&drop feature where from the list in the “Blocks” panel one could just drag the desired block to the scene, and also organize the list into subsections – I imagine the latter in a similar manner like layers work.

Hi wim,

yes I tried the blocks in Rhino 6 WIP and as far as I can tell there was no other functionality added.

Are there any major differences to the windows version?

Here are the wishes:
-somehow to categorize blocks into different categories, much needed if you work with hundreds of blocks (like materials in Rhino 6 WIP)
-to drag and drop blocks
-to make them dynamic in some way (i know there are possibilities to do that with grasshopper, but to have multiple dynamic blocks it is a LOT of work. It would be so great to scale and stretch blocks and adjust thickness with a separate window-like the box edit window)

thanks,
Stefan

It is unlikely that there will be features beyond what Windows v6 offers, as this Rhino WIP 6 for Mac is about bringing the Mac version up to speed with the Windows version -> feature parity. There is still boat loads to do to get that far.

After that we can always look at adding new stuff, that’ll be v7 and beyond, though.

Thanks for your response Nathan,

I’l be patient and be dreaming about how awesome it would be XD
