Blend Surface Edit with History

Hello,

I am new to rhino and i need your help with editing blend surfaces using the history recording feature for a mold design for my university project.

I have created a ribbon offset around the parting line of my part and i have used sweep2/patches to create a surface, then I have joined these surfaces into one polysurface, however there are multiple edges. I also have the flat surface of my mold and I want to create a blend surface to connect my “ribbon surface” to my flat surface, in order to do that i need to use “chained edges” command when creating my blending surface.

From my understanding this creates a problem in blend surface history and I cannot edit it afterwards, is there any fix I could use or am I doing something wrong?

Hi @Marie7
Please post the 3D file or at least screen grabs illustrating your problem - it’s close to impossible to provide any real guidance based on your description alone.

But… in general, there should be no problem with BlendSrf, history and chained edges - it should work. The fact that BlendSrf in itself is incredible finicky with history is a different story. Also note, that as soon as you start joining surfaces, all history is lost.

But post more details, preferably the 3dm file (only the relevant geometry) and/or some descriptive screen grabs.

Thank you for your reply, as you can see in the attached photo one of my surfaces has different z’eds, and I have used different patches and sweep2, and the other one is flat. I tried different methods but when I used the chain edges and disabled the automatic selection the blendSrf edit seems to work otherwise it says “There are no surfaces with BlendSrf history in the current model.”. I don’t know if this is normal or if something I am doing is wrong, i am still experimenting with the commands and the workflow of my design.

Command: BlendSrf
Select first edge ( ChainEdges Edit ): ChainEdges
Select segment for first edge ( AutoChain=No ChainContinuity=Tangency Direction=Both GapTolerance=0.01 AngleTolerance=1 )
