Hi,
What is the method to transfer settings from one template in V7 to another in V7, same install ,same PC same prog etc. I need template to template within V7 on same PC !
I see method transfer the .xml file for an entire V7 to another entire V7 on a different PC.
I am not doing that, I am editing Small Objects - inches template in V7 to be as Rhino Options Appearance I was using in V5, and having carefully matched all the Rhino Options settings in File>Properties between V5 and V7, I wish now to take the edited properties for Rhino Options in V7 and apply such to V7 for Medium Size Objects - inches, then also to V7 Large Objects - inches and then to my own user created templates in V7 for inches.
How is this done ?
Secondly how do I move to another template , e.g Small Objects - Inches SR6 to Medium Objects - inches SR6 my custom Dimensions (SR my initials not service release !). in other words Document Properties.
I see differences between templates V5 and V7, I will post a separate thread on this.
If you edit the standard Rhino templates, I suspect there is a likelihood you will lose your edits the next time you download a Rhino update which will reinstall the standard templates (I could be wrong about this, but why risk it?). I think you would be better off copying the Rhino templates you want to modify to new ones (maybe named āSteveās Small Objects - Inchesā etc) and just make the changes in your ones.
Hi Steve - basically, open any file, including an existing template (they are just 3dm files, not special) , make whatever changes you need and SaveAsTemplate. As Jeremy points out, best not to overwrite the default ones.
Hi,
user own name template, yes wise move, I have already my own named Template with my own dimension likes in it. Then my appearance colours and my user created display modes additional to the default ones.
Finally I have recreated my toolbar buttons with their scripts etc and some other setting changes in either Document Properties or Rhino Options.
I also see I had scripts I ran.
all these are in user named template Small Objects - inches SR6
this has my own Dimension styles added called
Inch decimal fractional 0.04inch tall
Inch decimal fractional 0.03inch tall
Inch decimal fractional 0.1inch tall
to name a few.
Having taken ages to get the appearance as I like and recreate the dimension styles in this template called
Small Objects - inches SR6, and the other extras mentioned, I want to save time and easy transfer these to other user named templates
get these changes across to templates :-
Medium Sized Objects - inches SR6
and to Large Objects - inches SR6
Dimensions are Document Properties and Appearance and Display Modes are Rhino Options.
I am aware that from PC to PC V5 to V5 was an .ini file and a .rui for toolbars etc, V6 uses instead .xml between PCās.
Hi,
no, all the changes I made to Properties as mentioned. Yes dims (and yes that would work) but also the other changes I mentioned.
Looking at my notes:- Document Properties
my own dim styles
Linetypes (alter to inches)
Mesh Rhino Options:-
Rotate
Viewport properties
Scripts
Appearance
Keyboard
Modelling Aids
Smart Track
Gumball
User created buttons on toolbars
View
Display Modes inc 8 starting with HM2 I see V5 has.
Its been quite a few hours comparing and making changes or adding in new dims, display modes etc.
I canāt face doing it all one by one again for each template ! it will take days. As I have a number of user named templates (as advised)
so how to take these settings into the other templates, preserving what makes those default templates (with SR6 suffix) unique, regards what they offer for object size and units used.
Steve -
Youāve been told multiple times over the last few days now that only the document properties are stored in files in generally, and thus in templates specifically.
That means that, from that list, itās only the annotation styles (use Import), linetypes (change that bullet in each template while youāre in those to import the styles), and meshing option (also simply change that to your liking in each template).

Hi,
I am knowing of Doc props and also Rhino Options and the transfer of them being two separate entities.
I am not being told anywhere how to get Rhino Options into another template within V7.
if anyone has said so within V7 then I missed it.
OK on Doc Propsā¦ manually edit Document Properties in each Template separately for Linetypes, mesh setings etc, and use import method etc. for Dimensions.
What about all my changes in Rhino Options, namely my hand crafted toolbar buttons with their scripts, the display modes I have altered settings for as well as my user custom modes.
Appearance, and others as listed above.
How are such Rhino Options taken from one template to another ?
Hi,
ok, however to hand edit everything again and again for the different templates will take too long,
what I will do then is save as a template Small Objects - inches SR6 as Medium Objects - inches SR6. and then as Large Objects - inches SR6
That will bring in everything, saving days of time, masses of hand crafting each one step by step. , but it will lose whatever the Medium Objects - inches gave us different to what the Small Objects - inches template gave etc. I need then to edit back in whatever gets lost regards the difference.
Soā¦
question. what is the difference between default templates
Small Objects - inches
Medium Objects - inches
Large Objects - inches
Again, none of that is saved in templates.
You set it once, and one time only, in the Rhino Options and it will be like that in whatever template you open.

Hi,
v7 as v5,
Oh wow, hadnt realised, understood, been told, one of those applies !.. thats saved an entire day, whatever gets done in Rhino Options happens then to all other templates !
No need to āsave asā to another template name suffix SR6. Got it.
