Best Rendering Plugin for Furniture in Rhino – Easy & Good Textures?

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum, although I’ve been using Rhino for some time.

I’m looking for suggestions on which plugin/software to use for rendering furniture to present to manufacturers in the industry. I need something that provides good texture representation for wood (chairs) and fabrics (sofas). Of course, the more realistic, the better, but it doesn’t have to be extremely accurate, as I imagine a higher level of realism also comes with a steeper learning curve.

In the past, I used V-Ray a little and later Enscape for Archicad. I remember V-Ray being quite complex, but I might be mistaken. I was also advised to finalize renders in 3ds Max with Corona, but I’d prefer to stick with Rhino since I’m already familiar with it.

So, the key points for me are:

  • Good wood texture representation, with easy material alignment to geometry
  • Good fabric texture representation
  • Short learning curve
  • Easy scene setup (lighting, background, etc.), with the ability to save the scene configuration and reuse it for different products
  • Doesn’t need to be extremely realistic—I prefer ease of use over ultra-realism

I appreciate any help!

Best regards,

I have zero idea about furniture rendering, but you can always give bella renderer a try:

https://bellarender.com/

This scene from nothing (no geometry) took me about ten minutes to setup.
Total render time for 1080p was 3 minutes 4 seconds on an Intel i7-13700K.

Currently, much rendering in bella can use a material known as “bella quick”, which is as it says on the tin.

Much of the other stuff can use PBRs naturally, and it will them directly from zip files.

Scene below uses Wood052 and Fabric019 from ambientCG.
Glass is bella quick (Type = Glass) with a complex IOR [Glass Soda-lime (green)] plugged into the Glass IO channel:

All mapping is completely Rhino mapping (box, cylindrical), and translated automatically by bella.

HDRI is from PolyHaven and I think is Brown Photostudio.

Anyhow, if you are happy to render on your CPU, then I certainly recommend it. I use it as my “daily”, if you like.

Thank you, Davi!

I’ll definitely take a look at this renderer. I had never heard of it before. The result looks great for the time spent—really efficient.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll keep researching my options.

I agree, I use Bella render intensively and can also recommend it.
