This was in another egg crate discussion, but I thought I’d make it a separate thread.
So we used to be able to group baked objects with the silly manual “right click” bake component.
Now that we have the wonderful Egg crate nuclear plant, I really hope that this important feature has been retained.
I have not found out how to do it yet.
While your wish is perfectly reasonable I wonder if it would be beneficial to have Group components similar to GH Block components. Ability to query groups, add, remove objects, modify group contents, renaming, etc.
At least grouping must be possible while baking before we can get something more advanced.
Groups are not geometry but a selection set of particular objects. The feature request i put in recently is about treating the set as model content and looks like it would require it to be a 9.x feature.
I’ll see if there anything we can do in the meantime to accommodate group workflows without 3rd party baking components. The old geometry cache will bake-- with errors, but fails to update due to the nature of groups all being unique.
Thanks.
A simple “Group” boolean input on the egg crate would do just fine in my opinion.
I think it would make sense to group all the objects in the same branch of the tree that is fed in the “Content” input.
One thing is for sure : not implementing a grouping feature while it has always been a standard baking option is a big miss.
