Auto CPlane workflow

When I’m using the auto cplane function, and lock it, why is it that when I change to my orthographic views, the cplane changes to that view? When in perspective, it is still that custom cplane I made. Thanks!

Hi 2483 -

I’m not sure if I’m completely understanding the question here.
Unless you set the Rhino Options -> Modeling Aids -> Construction planes option to “Universal construction planes”, each viewport has its own CPlane.
Locking the CPlane in the perspective viewport doesn’t do anything with the construction planes in the other viewports.

Hello Wim,

Thank you for your reply and yes that’s the information I was looking for! I wanted to orient the view to the construction plane. This combined with “Lock auto cplane” is the workflow I’m looking for. (I’m coming from modeling in Solidworks)

Are you looking for the PLAN command? That would switch your view to the cplane.

Is this how you want to view it?

Thanks! Yes, this more what I was looking for. In Solidworks, we work with planes and often use a command “normal-to” which orients the view and cplane to a selected surface. This, in combination with the project setting on is pretty darn close to what I’m used to.

Yes essentially; and it seems like the PLAN command is what does the trick. Thanks!
