Allow uploading of short movies

It would be nice if one could upload small movies of 20-40 sec length. Mp4 movies of that length and a resolution of say 300x600 take up a couple of hundred kilobytes.

As you know, a picture says more than a thousand words. Imagine many pictures in a row!

As most people have web space somewhere or a YouTube/Vimeo/some other video-photo sharing account, the common practice is to upload it there and post a link

Sure, all I’m saying is that I find that more cumbersome than a direct upload to discourse. Also, it puts the media in a place where it should not really be. If I write about a potential bug in rhino and want to show a short clip of this, it belongs to that message, not together with all other stuff that I uploaded to YouTube.

I use screencast.com (Jing) and I have a library folder up there just for Rhino bugs…

That looks like a better solution that what I am currently using. Thanks. Just signed up for an account.

I just added mp4 to the list of allowed uploads. Having youtube or vimeo accounts usually makes things really easy since discourse automatically embeds the video, but I want to make things work for whatever way people like to work.

Thanks @stevebaer I’ll upload mp4’s directly to Discourse in the future

Has uploading short .mp4 clips worked for you?

I haven’t tried it since, so I can’t tell you.

I’ve uploaded many videos recently. You can’t preview them in the chat window but they go up fine… I use www.screencast-o-matic.com.
