A drill bit

Just nitpicking, but the TiN coating (if that’s what it is) on the bit does not generally extend all the way to the shank…

Also, if you really want to make something realistic, drill bits have a relief ground off behind the cutting edge, otherwise they rub.

You are absolutely right, sir

The technical issue you pointed out is what is used in the relative industries technologically, but in this stage, I wanted to shape its illustrative model.

In fact, it was the first time I attempted to model a drill bit, though I was aware of the blade-like or razor-like cutting edge on it.

Also, about covering the cutting section with the thin layer of a hard metal, that’s right. In this step of modeling I just wanted to use a pleasant color to show the details of the shape.

Thank you so much, for your significant notification

Hi, Helvetosaur

This time I modeled the object with a different method with the same edge and coating view that you recommended

Hello Helvetosaur,

Not nitpicking at all when the model is of a to be tangible good and or will be used to make such. Your model also indirectly teaches.

Thank you,

Andy

The angle on the tip is too steep. Drill tips are usually 118° or 135°. Spotting drills are 90° but this isn’t supposed to be a spotting drill. Just some friendly constructive criticism.

Hello, sir

I say honestly; I always enjoy when the experts like you find a fault in my models, because in this way, I realize my mistake, learn new things, and correct my mistake in the next works.

If I want to model the drill again I will consider that technical issue

Thank you so much

And the direction of the helix, perhaps…

Hello, senior

But in the picture that Helvetosaur sent, the direction is the same, though a drill can be right-turn or left-turn.

I’m afraid you are mistaken about the directions:

But you are quite correct that you can get left-hand drill bits. They are quite specialised though, being used for drilling out seized bolts where you don’t want to force the material further into the thread.

Of course, I compared my first model with the picture.

Thank you for the notification and enlightening
