I can only think about it using Grasshopper solution. Should be possible with scripting also.

For those of us who are not Grasshopper-proficient, is there any way to do this with a script or python file?
No need for scripts or any kind of automation really. Just select all, run CurveBoolean (DeleteInput=All if you want to get rid of all the interior stuff), then click in a space somewhere outside the entire figure and Enter. That will get you just the outer boundary, which you can then hatch.
