Wrap picture surface around a doubly curved surface

Hello everyone!

I have been trying various methods to wrap an image around a cylindrical cup which is narrower on the bottom.

I have tried to Bend the image (Does not provide decent enough results), UV Mapping (I really don’t know how to use it), texture in materials and Flow (puts the image in undesired shapes and places)
I have seen that unrolling the surface can be very efficient, however, it denies the option as it is categorized as a doubly curved surface.

As I am posting here, you can deduct I have not been successful.
I often struggle with material mapping, and in this case, I need the cup itself to be a translucent red plastic with a decal. (Kids Cars Sippy Cup).

I hope I have been clear, thanks for your help.

Hey! I have seen that video and tried to follow along. It is very intuitive.
However, the decals won’t show for some reason (I don’t know if it has to do with my PC or is within the file)

In Rendered mode decals won’t show when used on objects with transparent material. Change the transparency to 0 and you’ll see it works:

This is a limitation of the current system.

If you want to get a good decal on your plastic your best approach would be to do a cylindrical mapping, then use the mcqueen image in the basecolor channel and in the opacity channel you’d put a version of the mcqueen image but only the alpha channel saved. Uncheck the repeat icon for both.

I made a video tutorial on this technique some years ago:

Thank you so much!
This gives me a lot of insight

@Ciro1 just to clarify - I took your Plastic material and changed the type from Plastic to Physically Based
