It should be obvious after several decades of ignoring customer requests for this feature that the decision-makers at McNeel have no intention of implementing anything like this.
It puzzles me what reasons and justifications for ignoring the many requests are thrown around in McNeel meetings and discussions of this topic (if any). @brian, @bobmcneel
Yeah, truly baffling to me as well why this was not even a 1.0 feature. Even more baffling that it even did exist but then went away again.
The main justification seemed always to be that it wasnât really needed, but that doesnât make any sense in terms of UX (surely more options to select the objects in the scene are better) and also simply because every other 3D software has it. So even if just for sheer familiarity it would make sense to have it.
Itâs like making a car without a trunk lid and then saying, well, you can fold down the back seats and put stuff in the trunk, so the trunk works just fine..
But they have repeatedly admitted that they do not have anyone at McNeel who does UX and/or Design and that they donât see the value in that and would rather work on developing functionality, which btw is a typical thing a developer would say. I know because I used to do UX for several very large companies, a lot of which were developer/tech driven and it took a long time to get them to be anywhere close to UX-driven.
