What's the best way to unroll this surface?

Hi everyone !

I’d like to know the best way to unroll this surface according to you ?

UnrollSrf did’nt work as it’s a doubled curved surfaces. I’d like the left edge to be straight (as smash created) because the left edge of my base surface is on the x axis.

The problem with smash is that it deforms quite a lot (as you can see with the projected circle).

Thanks for your answers !

Hello
I am not sure there is a best way. It surely depends on what process you will use to go from 2D to 3D. Mostly elongation (like for metal work and forging), sometime compression, or you want edge that remains the same (the technique I use for my objects as I work with just bending metal).
There are many many possible outputs with squish (some new with R9), try the options and look at what is the best for your workflow.

What is it going to be made with?

The “blank” for a formed surface could be theoretically anything, it depends on the particulars and largely comes down to experimentation and experience.

Try etxracting isocurves, then use isocurves to rebuilt the surface with sweep2 comand, then use unrollsrfUV to flat the surface, if you want a perfect straight edge try to flow the flatten surface with a straight curve as a reference and the original edge curve as a starting base curve, and that’s it

i can do it for you, just to show you the process, if you post the file

Worked great !! Thank you very much
