What UI do you recommend using with Rhino.inside.Revit?

  • UI+
  • Human UI
  • Has anyone got a nice custom that should be used as a standard

Thanks

That’s a very open question

Theres also Suimple (not on food4rhino but its in Packagemanager, see here Learn Grasshopper on LinkedIn: #grasshopper #computationaldesign #parametricdesign )

My experience is that the HumanUI scripts easily become a spaghetti monster…

This is one of the goals of the next major iteration of RiR. HumanUI will work but recommend getting familiar with ETO in this regard.

This is perfect, less effort is always better. It makes training and business wide implementation much easier. Been trialing it currently

I couldn’t find any information on when this will move out of beta. Applying it across multiple offices could be risky if we don’t have developer support and it’s still in beta

I’m personally more comfortable with Human UI, but it hasn’t been updated in a while. Using a plugin would make adoption easier across the wider group compared to developing a custom UI.

Hi Chistopher, is this like a prompt inside Revit like a dynamo player? If the GH definition is stable and no extra adjustment, it will be nice to run it without opening the script and can be shared to other non-GH users, cheers.

Yeah that’s the plan. Create more UI built scripts for Non-GH Users.

Likely Complex project scripts that can be built with UIs & maybe some standard scripts.

There’s also Synapse, havent tried it.

I have been meaning to ask this question in the forum. My biggest complaint about Human UI is that set geometry and many parameters do not get saved if the user wants to revisit the parametric model later on. There is a ā€œsave stateā€ component but it doesn’t work in all parameters and certainly does not save geometry.

With GH without Human UI, all of that info is saved, (set points, curves, parameters, etc). Do any of these other UI’s make saving data easier?

Very interesting, could you write a bit more about this? Are we talking about plans for the distant future (time measured in years) or something closer?

I’m not sure if I understood you correctly. Do you mean that there will be some more effort from McNeel side to streamline using RiR Grasshopper definitions run from custom UI windows?

Correct, this is a popular request and we have some low level enhancements as well as SDK breaking ones that are on the list. The exact timing as always is subject to developer priorities, any SDK breaks will be done on major versions (Rhino 9 / RiR 2.0)

Thanks! i will add that as a feature request.

It could be solved if the grasshopper remote panel was a little more feature-rich. Add Value list, set geometry, text fields, etc.

Depending on how dirty you want your hands, there are various hacks to saving states and also keeping a default value.

I like that ā€˜settings’ are saved to my rhino document instead of the gh document.
A quick and dirty one ive used a few times is on every change you write to the RhinoDoc notes and on load you parse these lines.

See attached with a dropdown menu:
Read EPW.gh (31.5 KB)

Yes, I’ve done something similar that’s even more hackey. I bake a point with attributes with all the GUID to reference geometry.
