Hi,
V5
cursor snapping away all over the place and so turn off Isnaps one by one and seventually none are ticked and still snapping.
I am trying to put a point down on a section line (from project command) going by a visual edge (it has a mapped raster from the obj) but this going on denies that.
I find I cannot work on meshes when I want to snap to my lines over it and the snapping is seeing things I cannot see.
If I turn off Osnap using disable then snapping stops but then I have no snaps to snap to my drawn lines and curves !
hi Steve, I have a hard time following your writing to understand what the actual issue is. It’s been a while since I fired up Rhino 5, by the looks of it it has no Mesh Snapping. In Rhino 8, snapping to meshes should be disabled by default, but there is a setting for this (in Modeling Aids) or by running SnapToMeshes.
Hi,
I have all osnaps unticked, I am trying to place a point on a line that exists over the mesh, Its the result of a project command of a line, so giving me a section.
and the cursor is snapping to many hidden somethings.
If I had vertex ticked I could understand it.
so wish to stop it snapping about in snaps a few mm apart or so.
I need to perhaps do a video, all takes time.
but if I turn off osnaps using disable the snapping stops.
I cannot explain it any better,
I dont want it snapping to the mesh, just to my curves that exist over it.
take the mesh I sent to McNeel a few days ago and see what I mean,
( Wim knows where it is, )
project a line down onto it, you get a section. (delete input=yes) then try placing a point on that line, and watch the cursor move about,
like walking a load of puppies on elastic bands !
turn off all osnaps and still it jumps about, click disable then its ok, but then unable to snap to the desired line I made.
does the snapping also act like this with only the curve visible?
I don’t see any uploads from the email you use for this forum, other than an upload from jan. 24th.
just in case that should not have been considered already, did you disable grid snaps?
but i guess thats not it since when you disable onaps it entirely stops
Gremlins
I cannot get it to happen today, either to that item or the original one it was happening on.
All I can do is wait until it happens again, AND IT WILL, then video it and upload the mesh and the exact task I am doing.
glad you found the mesh, hang onto it, saves me uploading again.
Thank you Wim.
I will be working on that one in ernest soon.
There again soon can be like chasing the end of a rainbow the rate all this is going !
Meanwhile here is what I was into when it was happening.
Hi, @Gijs
had that snapping when no snaps selected again, (using V5 on the V5 file, though I have saved it as V4 since then, just a few more curves and a rotate by a fraction of a degree attempting to get brake drum vertical) so screen recorded it.
zipped the two recording and sent using upload link I was given for the big project that the .3dm file is !
the project is the big one sent earlier, 1.7Gb so one send will suffice !
Japhy has it. @Japhy
and then it was snapping over NOTHING so now video’d that as well. and sent it.
In fact the expected snaps were POOR, when normally it would be expected to snap to int or end it was not really strongly doing so, had to zoom right in and look for a sign of snapped, as if the magnet had gone exceptionally weak !
nightmare to work with.
