I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction for trying to generate a structural building shell/ organic building shape in grasshopper.
Here is an image of what my schematic non-structural building form looks like;
I want to end up with an organic building form with the building’s primary structure along the building’s exterior. Here is an example of a similar aesthetic that I am striving for;
Ideally, I would utilize a structural optimization plugin which would give me some ideas about structure, and which would also change the geometry of the exterior; making it more of an organic shape.
In exchange it would help explore more possibilities in parametric design, as it can help take revolutionary decision that one might have overlooked while visualising.
Your sense of humor is amazing. I did not mock the topic but the formulation.
“What are the evolutionary algorythm optimization sovers for GH?”
“What is the best evolutionary algorithm optimization software?”
Everyone has his/her own preference, the second will trigger huge discussion and potentionaly mislead the one who created the thread. Better simply ask for a list and find the one best fits you.
To me “structural” and “organic looking” suggests topology optimization.
Currently, Millipede is the only plug-in in Grasshopper that can do that.
That said, the project in your image is probably not very structurally efficient at all, but mostly aesthetic.
If you want play with Topology Optimisation, soon I will release new TO plugin “tOpos” with GPGPu acceleration. Is 100 times faster than Millipede.
For a now you can read my articles about it: HERE or HERE
The plugin should be available to download on food4rhino soon. So stay tuned.
Best Sebastian.
Hey @alyssa.parsons , did you ever figure what worked? I’m curious to know because I’m sort of doing a similar thing with my thesis project. Please let me know! Thanks
