Hi,
I tried to measure the object that I’m modeling in Rhino(a cube) and I’m trying to find out the vertical dimension of it by using the vertical dimension command. However, the result didn’t go as I expected. The annotation behaves like a horizontal dimension and the annotation tells me that it’s zero inches.
How to resolve this issue?
I really need help with this. Thank You.
Dimensions ALWAYS are created coplanar to the CPlane in the viewport.
Switch to the Right or Front viewport and your dimension will work fine.
Typical thing many people use in Rhino when trying to measure stuff - but if you aren’t making a printable document or need to have the measurements always on-screen for some other reason, you should use the commands Distance, Length, Angle etc. instead of placing dimensions. They also work in 3D. Many people simply ignore the existence of these functions.
Excellent point.
Dimensions are annotations intended to decorate a layout or model for documentation and printing.
They are inefficient and can be misleading due to rounding when used as analysis tools.
As Helvetosaur points out, the Analysis tools are intended for analysis.
