Does anyone know a good way to find Universities that teach Rhino as part of a degree program? I’ve been searching for schools that offer 3D Design graduate or undergrad degrees but maybe they are calling it something else. 3D modeling or additive manufacturing (3D printing)…? I’m asking because I am a Veteran and have a VA benefits for education but it has to be part of an actual degree plan. Some universities have suggested I look into Studio Arts but those programs seem to be graphic design based instead of CAD, and I’m a jewelry designer wanting to learn to use Rhino to take my work to the next level. I’m open to suggestion. Thank you.
Have you checked out the CAD classes at the Gemological Institute of America? www.gia.edu
I’m on the staff there and we teach two Rhino-focused jewelry CAD courses.
Comprehensive CAD/CAM for Jewelry (CCC)
7 weeks
www.gia.edu/CCC
Jewelry Design & Technology (JDT)
6 months
www.gia.edu/JDT
I’m not sure about CCC, but I believe the JDT Diploma Program is an option for VA benefits. Feel free to DM me for more info about these programs.
Ok, cool. Thank you. I’ll check them out and get back with you if I have questions. I really appreciate it.
I’m really looking for a Graduate or possibly even Undergrad degree program in 3D Design that teaches and uses Rhino. Maybe someone in the Rhino user world has a list of schools that use Rhino.. hmmm
The thing is Universities don’t generally teach software. Students are often expected to pick up a lot of this stuff on their own. You might find an architecture or design school that actually has a real Rhino course, but those are often branch-specific and designed for people who are studied to be architects or designers. I taught a semester-long university-level Rhino course that later got shortened to a half-semester, then to four weeks, so I quit. CAD courses have more of a tendency to be taught in trade-oriented schools.
You should try to be a bit more specific: what’s a VA benefit?
All design university teach or use RHINO in a way or another, for sure here in Milano (it) I know all of them uses it.
Are you close to Milan?
VA = Veterans Administration, from that I take it he is in the US.
Coming from a recent graduate of a product and industrial design course, I think you would be hard pressed to find a course that teaches Rhino. As Helvetosaur said, I think trade schools would likely have a more hands-on approach to teaching CAD, but I wouldn’t know of any. There is a course called Offsite (Offsite — Advanced Design) but not sure if it’s accredited or not.
My course didn’t teach CAD very well. We were ‘taught’ Solidworks, but poorly and with little rigor nor breadth of information. Mainly just about how to use extrudes and what dimensions were.
I felt like Rhino should have been taught more since the program suits the student workflow better, while SW could have been an elective in final year as students got closer to the workflows found in professional design.
I am in the US. I’m just saying that I have funds available to use for education but it requires that I attend a university or accredited school and enroll in a degree program, Undergraduate or Graduate. I’m looking for a school in the US that uses or teaches Rhino 3D as part of their degree program. I’m searching for a 3D Design, Architecture, Engineering or related degree program that uses Rhino 3D. I thought I would ask here thinking that professional Rhino users may have also completed design related degrees. Yes, I could learn it on my own using online lessons, and the resources here but I’m thinking that since I have education funding available it would be smart to learn Rhino as part of a design degree, IF I can find a school that uses or teaches Rhino.
I appreciate the responses and hope this clarifies what I’m searching for.
