Unable to open V7 files in WIP

Was hoping to open some V7 files in WIP and I am unable to. I’ve noticed that files in which I do not have layout pages seem to open, files with layout pages do not – and I’ve opened in the past from an earlier version of the WIP.

Thanks,

jvm

What do you mean by “unable to open?” What happens?

See if disabling all those add-on plugins helps.

Hi jvm,

Which version of the WIP are you running? I just tried bringing a noddy R7 file with a layout into 8.0.23136.12095, 2023-05-16 and it loaded ok. Could you post a file that fails for you?

Regards
Jeremy

Hi Jim and Jeremy.

Downloaded latest WIP and installed. When opening a file (rather large by my standards 1+ gig and 180+ or so page layouts), when loading, the wheel just spins, never opening. A smaller file, with about 50 page layouts, just spins as well.

I’ve opened the smaller file with earlier WIP, about 9 mos ago, no issue – same plugins as currently installed. Of course, I can remove the plugins.

When opening on V7, wheel will spin but opens in about a minute.

jvm

Further, disabled the non-Rhino plugins and it still does not load files. To be specific, the program opens and I get the Rhino command line, everything I would expect, but it doesn’t load the file, I get a spinning wheel.

This isn’t urgent since I’m able to open in V7, but there does appear to be an issue opening in the WIP.

Here’s the WIP version I’m running.

Hi Jim -

Please upload the smaller file through Rhino - Upload to Support so that we can take a closer look at this. Make sure to copy the URL to this thread in the comments field on that page.
Thanks,

Hey Wim, uploading file to McNeel. Thanks for taking a look at it.

Best,

jvm

Hi Wim. Okay I walked away and let the smaller file continue loading and it finally opened – took 25 minutes. I suppose the much larger file will take considerably longer.

In any event, that’s way too long to load a file.
