Unable to Assign Displacement Texture

When I want to add displacement to an object, I am no longer able to load a texture (neither from a file nor a built-in one). Nothing happens at all when I click on the box that says “click to assign texture.” I just updated to the latest service release, but it’s been a while since I’ve needed to use displacement so I’m not sure if it’s related to the update or not. None of my colleagues who are on the same service release are having this issue. Any thoughts on what could be going on here? Thanks!

Cause is unknown.

Hi Kyle…Thanks again for helping me out. Since our phone call I’ve discovered that it’s the Datasmith toolbar that causes the problem. And not just that, it’s when the toolbar is floating that assigning a displacement texture doesn’t work. If I dock it, the issue resolves. Very weird!

we have seen a few datasmith errors that do weird things… I’ll add that to the list! thanks for letting me know.

may be worth letting them know thru their tech support channel-

added a bug track to our system here but likely will require datasmith to actually fix their end-

RH-84166 datasmith plugin causes displacment dialog to be blank

Hi Kyle,

I’m continuing to have the problem on not being able to assign a displacement texture to an object. Looks like it’s not just when my Datasmith toolbar is floating, but also when any Rhino toolbar is floating. I’m constantly having to reset the window layout to default if I want to use displacement. Could you update the bug track to see if there’s a chance of figuring out why this is happening? Thanks!

if you disable datasmith in rhino restart and try displacement again, does it work?

any updates from datasmith themselves?

Hi Kyle,

Hope, disabling Datasmith doesn’t solve the problem…it happens even when Datasmith is completely disabled. I have to dock ALL floating toolbars, like my selection filter & osnap toolbars for example which I have as floating toolbars on a separate monitor, for displacement to work. This is making me think it’s not a Datasmith problem, but rather a bug within rhino related to floating toolbars…?

Let me know what you think. Thanks,
Sarah

I would for sure check for updates, you are on SR11 and we are up to SR 14 now I think-
