it seems that it is just a Julia contour that has a variation of a parameter along Z. You could use Chimpanzee plugin to get contours, then you move the contour along Z and solidify them using a tool like Dendro or Loft …

Also you can solidify Chimpanzee point clouds by shrinkwrapping them which is really cool
