I hadn’t used Octane for Rhino for about a week, it was working fine then but now it goes through the motions of setting up rendering but the image does not come up. And then the ‘Open Viewport;’ button is greyed out after the first attempt at rendering. I have all recent versions of Octane and Rhino.
Like I said everything was working fine a week ago. Any ideas.
I wonder if it might be a driver issue for the GPU assuming that is how you use Octane. Since you are on Mac the GPU driver will be from macOS. Maybe an update of the OS is what changed and a new plugin version may be needed to match it. I’d first check if it’s file specific too as maybe the model is exceeding memory available on the GPU.
No, not on a Mac. But I will download the newest driver. I did that about 2 weeks ago and everything was working fine. Not file specific as early files, which rendered in Rhino via Octane, now don’t.
On Windows, I see GPU driver versions and Windows update versions needing to update together often for GPU renderers to work well. I generally keep them both near each other but I’m not on Win 11 yet here (due to some bios issue) which may be a factor on your end. Good luck with the driver wrangling.
I downloaded the newest driver without any luck in rendering. I can do a Render Preview and it renders with Octane but once I hit ‘Open Viewport’ it goes through the motions and then grays out never to allow me to hit that button again. So it’s rendering but cannot keep the ‘Octane’ Viewport Open. It can render via the Rhino Viewport but that’s pretty useless as I don’t have access to the material or camera focus tool. Nor can I save out the project to Standalone Octane as .obx
Thinking about it, I changed a lot. Installed the new Maverick with Mav4Rhino, Installed newest version of Octane and plugin 4 Rhino. And there was a small system upgrade a few days ago. I already tried uninstalling Mav4Rhino but that didn’t make any difference.
Checking out the site for Octane4Rhino I found this:
The Octane Viewport does not appear after clicking the Open Viewport button. This occurs when the Viewport was previous closed on a second monitor, or off the current screen. To resolve this, delete the plugin configuration file config.xml as per Octane for Rhinoceros Plugin Manual.
Problem is it doesn’t say how to delete the plugin config file…or where to find it.
For some reason the page didn’t scroll down to the bottom on my PC and didn’t give me the info needed. I clicked on the link from the post here and found the required info at the bottom, deleted the config file and I’m back and running. Yeah!!
Hi Paul, I had this same exact problem last year. I could never figure out the reason. And not being connected to external monitor makes sense in my situation.
I had ended up resetting the whole computer, it was overdue anyway. I think Windows ‘expired’ after about 12-18 of a fresh install. After that everything starts to slow down and break.
