SVG Icon Editor issues

When attempting to modify a default button, this comes up:

Continue with what?

If I continue, I can edit the SVG.
And perhaps Save As, that could be useful.
The saved SVG has 0 bytes.

When I change the icon and give OK, I end up with this:

I think editing a default button should be forbidden at all.

Next try.
I copy a default button, Paste in this case, and want to modify it.
Then the same message comes up.

Is it intended that it is not possible to edit a copy of a default button?

When in the SVG Editor, I have 2 File menues:
image

When I edit a default button, the preview only shows the added paths:

The only possible tab is Properties:

If there is only this tab it is superflous.

Good morning @Charles,

The meaning was continue with editing. I’ll Update the message, thanks for this.

I’ve replicated this and it indeed seems to save only the additions, infact all the icons do. The SVG Editor should save out the existing icon with the edits.
https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-83334/SVGEditor-Background-Svg-not-saved-with-edits

It is not intentional, the SVG Spec is very very large and I’m currently working to capture enough of the spec to edit all of the Rhino icons but this is an ongoing process. When an item cannot be fully edited it is included as a background image for now. I’m doing a chunky update at the moment to capture gradients, defs, groups and other items.

That’s quite weird. Can you give me a system info I can add to this youtrack?
https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-83333/SVGEditor-Menu-has-File-twice-in-Menu

This is a bug I’m currently working to fix.

I’m working on more tabs, including a layers tab which will make grouping/ungrouping and changing the draw order easier. And ideally a tab for defs and reusable icon items.

Thankyou for the feedback and in depth bug reports. It’s really helpful!

Happy cake day!

It doesn’t currently work before you select an item, and only when an item is selected. Youtrack here.
https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-82217

If it doesn’t work when selected, I will take another look at this

I can confirm it does not when selected.

I believe this is the issue → https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-82211
The colour is transparent by default. If you change the alpha slider along the bottom your colour will show.
I need to look into this particular dialog and see how easily this can be changed.

I overlooked the alpha slider. Sorry about that, but now I know. This a great improvement on the old editor. Great work. Thank you.

Thank you. Please report any issues, paper cuts or gripes you find, I want to keep improving it and its SVG spec support.

I have two problems with the creation or editing of icons:
-We can’t paste directly a bitmap. I have to copy the image I want, paste it in Affinity Designer, copy it from there, then paste it in the icon editor… cumbersome.
Sometimes I like to do tiny renders for icons. Before I just copied the viewport and pasted in the icon editor. Now there’s more steps and two other software involved (to screen capture and to copy to the clipboard in a compatible format)
-The editing tools don’t work at all. The square, ellipse, line, pencil… none works. See the video attached.

Hey @Marc this looks like the old editor to me. It has been replaced with this editor. (Thanks for the System Info, very handy)

The new one is default in 8.11.

The new editor allows import. But paste would be a good idea. I’ll add that to its features.
https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-83490/SVGEditor-Allow-for-Pasting-a-bitmap

I installed the update this morning… I assumed it was the latest one that was ready to install.
How can it be that there’s no check when we finally say “yes” to install the update that it is the latest?

Edit:
What it this?
I have 8.10.24226.13001:

If I click on “Check Now…” the webpage says there’s a new build but it downloads the same one again…

You need to change the Update Frequency to “Service Release Candidate”

Here’s a better description of what to do

I won’t install a SRC (see the problem with Bella not working SRC 8.11 - Bella Fails to Load)

And the “Check Now” function should not tell me that a newer version is available and then goes on downloading the same one again…

There was a “hot-fix” for 8.10 which is why you got a file to download.

I believe the Bella issue in 8.11 is only on Mac, but that’s fine if you don’t want to use a release candidate.

No preview:

Even no preview when I add a rectangle or circle or something.

When I click the Save or Save As icon, nothing happens.
Except I get the file RhinoDotNetCrash.txt on the Desktop.

Hey @Charles,

That seems very odd, and very annoying.
We’re struggling to reproduce this on our end, can you create a short video showing this, and ideally, also showing how the steps you took to open the editor and this icon.

Hi Callum

The toolbar is from madCAM, it holds SVG icons.
The effect is seen with the intrinsic Rhino toolbars as well, but only on the first attempt to edit.

Excellent, thanks @Charles I cannot repro this with the default rhino icons, but I can with the (?) icon in the MadCam toolbar! Excellent. I’ll create a ticket and look into this one.

I appreciate every issue you report, they make Rhino better and better

P.s - Also figured out why File appears twice for you, so hoping to have that one resolved soon.
