Surfaces not trimming

Hi guys, I’ve got an issue where my surfaces are not trimming for some reason.

If I use _Intersect, it produces closed curves, so they should (in theory) be able to trim with, but even in trying to use these curves, they don’t trim. Is this a bug or a shortcoming of the trim tool?

The text was open-extruded with the gumball from a set of curves.

Could someone at the McNeel team take a look at this for me please?

The U works so I’ve used it as an example of what I’m aiming to achieve, but the S is particularly annoying.

Thanks,

Are you looking to get something like this?

If so then Intersect your extruded letters and blue surface to get the curves on the surface

Next PushPull, select all the interiors

And pull down

Trim does not work because some of the letters contain very narrow surfaces. For example the S contains an extremely narrow surface, less than 0.00001 in width. It is yellow in the image below.

Explode the letters, Trim. Delete the untrimmed, narrow surfaces, Join.

Curves of imported fonts are notorious for causing problems in Rhino due to ultra small segments, gaps, folds, etc.

Ahh thanks for pointing that out. I figured something was up with the text but couldn’t find anything. Cheers guys.
