Subdividing mesh faces into quads

I haven’t worked with meshes much, so maybe there’s an easy answer I’m missing. Is there a command other than SplitMeshEdge for subdividing meshes?

Using that command seems to always result in triangle mesh faces, I’d really like to keep quad mesh faces on the subD controller mesh.
