SubD Faces not merged or has 2 colors in same object

Why is the color of the fingernail gray in the shaded viewport and the finger is green (pictures below). I used the commands: bridge meshes or SubDs, Fill SubD Hole, and I Checked the object with the command Show naked edges (In Analyse). The result was that there were no naked edges. How to fix it, please help me. here is the file link: (Microsoft OneDrive)

That is because the faces are flipped. You have your shaded mode set to draw backfaces with a different color - gray in your case.

Also, please make sure you have a valid license and use a non-cracked version of Rhino - visit Rhino - Buy - Rhinoceros and once you have a valid license Rhino - Downloads to ensure you install from an official installer.

Edit: toggle SubD display, you’ll see there’s some horrible geometry in the nail. You’d better fix that as well.

Thanks Nathan for replying. but why the fingernail still gray after joined to the finger and there is no naked edge

The backfaces are showing. You have to flip the nail before joining to your finger.

Thanks, I Will try to flip it

I tried to flip the nail before joining it to the finger. It was nice but still opened SubD in properties after cutting the finger from the hand (Pic below). I can’t know where is the naked edge. because if the object closed it will be in 1 color

you are fighting a few things, your topology is overly complex and not organized in a way that makes your modeling easier. Your topology should flow with the shapes you are making, not crisscross it or travel in disjoined edge loops.

you also have some bad topology and that needs to be repaired by identifying it, then deleting it and rebuilding it with bridge or extrude, or fill…

see attached model for the repair I did-

for subd keep deleting stuff until the model falls apart, or your shape is no longer achievable… then go backwards one step and you have your starting place. the simpler your models are the less you will fight this stuff.

Thank you, Kyle, for the file you sent. your topology is organized. I Think I used the fault commands “join”. to the face’s fingernail to the finger, not bridge or extrude, or fill. I cut the finger from the hand (Pic below) in your file and the object was closed thanks. The brown finger is yours and the dark green is mine .Can I know how to find the naked edges? (Not the command Show naked edges)

showedges set to naked edges is the tool to use to see naked edges, but the repair subd tool is what you are looking for to help identify issues in the sub topo itself.

In your case, there were some odd faces that were misbehaving, and the fix is simply to delete and remake them however works best for you.

If I had to guess this was quadremeshed at some point and there were no guide curves in that process to help sort the geometry.

often if the model is fighting you a lot, it can be useful to lock it, then redraw it using better topology with a simpler layout. It always feels like a step backwards and so most people won’t do it, but I’ve found over the years that taking the time to optimize the topology for your shape pays huge dividends down the line later in the modeling process.

Thanks for the information kyle. I have 20 years of experience in jewelry manufacturing and cad drawing on Matrix 3D. But I haven’t experience on SubD. Here is my portfolio on Upwork. If you want any jewelry design I am ready to draw to you for free. https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~012ce1f7774c3f67f2?p=1843195019346403328
