I have the following problem in Rhino 7 Mac: I have a lot of gears in my project. They consist of many surfaces, and when I want to sub select ( ctrl shift + mouse click) one of them from a group to reposition it, Rhino often doesn’t give me the choice of the entire polysurface, but of some of the surfaces it consists of. Sometimes I need to click several times until I get the entire gear. Is there a way to change that?
I tried SelectionFilter and turned off everything but Polysurfaces and Points, but that didn’t help.
Enclosed a file with just one bevel gear … and maybe there is the cause of the problem: this file with just one gear has 14.7 MB … that seems very much for a small gear to me. It is generated online on evolventdesign.com. I also tried the gear plugin for Rhino, but I can’t get it installed in Rhino 7 Mac.
Hi Jessesn, thanks for your quick answer - I deselected everything in the Selection Filter but polysurfaces, but the problem remains. I thought it might have to do with my having changed the MousePickBoxRadius in Advanced Settings from 7 (default) to 3, but that wasn’t it either. Anyway, I guess I’ll learn to live with it
Did you make sure the sub object box was active in addition to having the polysurfaces box checked? Sometimes it’s hard to tell due to the coloring because it’s not a checkbox but fills in with a color value.
I do run into this but usually the polysurface is on the list if you scroll it when you accidentally get asked for an edge. Also don’t know if you noticed but certain display modes give different results with selection. I think Rhino’s selection though good has it’s flaws which makes it frustrating when working. Sometimes Rhino will always select the object underneath the object etc. or I might have to go to wireframe view mode to select an edge or a point.
Many times I click the group use the “isolate” command and select the items in the isolated mode I don’t know if that command is in Mac V7?
