Still having problem with PDF printing in R8

I’m running version (8.5.24029.6001, 2024-01-29) of Rhino8. When I try to print a front view of the following section of a gate, I only get a portion of it showing in the PDF file. Here’s what I see when I set up to print.

and here’s the PDF file I get

Is there a new version that corrects this problem?

From what I can see in your SystemInfo your Intel video driver is from 1-20-2022, your Nvidia driver is from 11-1-2023 and your hint version is from 1-29-2024.

I suggest you update your drivers to the latest available on the Intel and Nvidia driver download websites and set your Rhino update to receive Release Candidates, which will get you the absolute most recent version: eg. there is a new RC that was released 3 days ago. Pdf printing is receiving quite a bit of attention in recent RCs.

Please, what is a “hint version”?

I would also suggest using the RhinoPDF printer instead of the very limited Microsoft PDF printer.

Updated my Nvidia driver. Tried both MS and Rhino PDF. Still get the same thing. Only a portion of the drawing.

this might be super obvious and not the problem, but you have your view-output set to Window. I use that when I want to select a bit of the viewport to make into an image. If I want the whole layout or the whole viewport, I would use Extents or Viewport respectively

What I usually do is set the image of what I want in the print dialog. So I expect to get in the print what I set it to.

Sorry for not proof reading before posting. I meant Rhino - don’t know how it got to “hint”.

The version I’m running was supposed to have fixed the issue I’m reporting. When I just checked for updates it said my version was current. If that is not the case, I need to know.
I first reported this issue way back in October of last year when 8 was still in wip. Is there a you track for it?? I can save the file as a version 7 and print with no problem.

This may clear up things or make it worse. These two prints are from a different drawing. They were set up the same except one was set to “raster” and one set to “vector”. Now, in the set up dialog box they both looked the same, but the prints came out different. I understand the basic difference between raster and vector.
But should that difference cause such a huge problem in the file that is printed, considering the problem was not visible in the Rhino print dialog? In other words, is this a real bug in Rhino or am I seeing something that is the way things should be? I hope I’m making sense.

Yes you make sense! I’ve been struggling with getting accurate prints as well, so that’s why I am following this and trying to understand what you are dealing with. There are new vector capabilities in Pen, Technical and Monochrome. Before R8 you would only ever see a raster print from those display modes. Now vectors are generated if you choose vectors in the print dialogue.

They are working on fixing problems in the service release candidates. Your test file from your earlier example worked as expected on my machine. I wonder if you are not updated to the most recent service release? That has to be done manually by clicking “check now…”

Well, I’m glad I’m not the Lone Ranger. I did check just now by hitting the “check now” and my version appears to be the latest.

Just to be sure, when you clicked “Check Now” did the “Update Frequency” box show “Service Release Candidate” as in Keen’s screenshot, or did it say “Service Release”? You can set it with the pulldown at the right.

Service Release Candidates normally come out every Tuesday evening Seattle time. Service Releases usually no more often than once a month.

Thank you. I had not paid attention to that. Will try the latest.

So I’ve updated to the latest Service Release Candidate. Here is how I set up the print to RhinoPDF using raster.

and here’s what I got.

then I set the same thing up using vector and I saw

and here’s what I got.
trial-element-pen-vector-052403.pdf (56.0 KB)
With this latest release, it prints a little more of the raster before it gets tired and quits. Now I suppose that one could argue that all I need to do is print using vector. But my point is that it did not print what I saw in the print dialog and that seems to be a bad thing.
