Shadow and clipping plane

Hi all — hoping someone can help.

I’m trying to produce a section perspective in Rhino 8, but I can’t get the shadows to render correctly. As soon as I enable the clipping plane, the interior lighting changes completely: the shadows behave as if the wall opening weren’t there, as though the wall were still solid.

Screenshot below shows the problem. Has anyone run into this, or know of a workaround?

Thanks!

Hey Exthai,

I might be wrong but to my understanding you cut off the front wall with the Clipping Plane you’re using. If you want to see the shadow of the opening, try adding that front wall to the Excluded Objects list at the Properties of the Clipping Plane.

Hi Exthai -

It looks like this got broken along the road. I’ve put it on the list to get fixed:
RH-98023 Display: Shadows Don’t Ignore User Defined Clipping Planes

As for workarounds, I’m afraid the only ones would be to either use Rhino on macOS, or revert to 8.7, which would reintroduce a lot of other bugs…

Thanks, Viper, for your response!

I tried your suggestion, but in that case, the front wall would be excluded from the clip(the wall appears in the section) along with the shadow, which isn’t what I originally intended.

It seems like this might be a bug related to Dekeyser’s comment. But anyway, thank you so much for your help!

Dekeyser, thank you so much for letting me know about this! I was about to go mad because I had tried so many different options, but nothing worked…:face_with_spiral_eyes:

Looking forward to having the function back!
